New Programs at MCF (Spring 2013)

Social Skills Group

A program specifically designed to meet the unique needs of our local teens and young adults with autism.

Weekly community outings to local landmarks, hikes in the local area, restaurants, movies, community centers and more are held as a means to
practice and generate newly acquired skills.

Our objective is to provide the participant with the following:
- An enjoyable and educational social setting where friendships can be developed and practiced.
- Increased awareness and knowledge of social skills limitations.
- Improved ability to initiate, interpret and respond to the verbal and non-verbal social cues used in various settings in the community to avoid unexpected behaviors.
- Improved knowledge about personal hygiene and self-care.

Mountain Creek Farms, Inc. concentrates on four major areas of development: residential, supported living, vocational services and specialized services. These areas are described below. Our work is guided by our mission and philosophy.

Residential

The residential program focuses on skills retention, development of skills of independent living, and integration in the greater community environment through activities such as volunteer opportunities, Special Olympics, shopping and outdoor activities to improve the mind and body including hiking, biking, camping and cross country skiing.

Day Program / Vocational Services

Mountain Creek Farms also has a day vocational program that offers habilitation programming and skills development to adults and adolescents with autism. The program has a wood shop, weaving and fabric arts department, a horticulture department and several fields of produce, landscaping which work out in the community, kitchen and meal preparation programs, and an animal care program in the barn and pastures.  There are several internships set up local businesses that provide real-life learning opportunities that often lead to employment.

Specialized Services

Also offered are limited specialized training support services to families known to the program, advocacy of autism issues, and training to service providers interested in practical approaches to serving adults and adolescents with autism. Mountain Creek Farms also serves as a training sight for students from area colleges and universities.
